Abstract

The article analyzes a key theme of L. Girshovich's novel Prais- the theme of the loss of identity by the Jews exiled to the Siberia, to the non-existent Fizhmensky land in 1953, and remaining the last of the Mohicans of the Soviet society in the post-Soviet epoch. It demonstrates the dominance of the motif of loss, and investigates the mythological mechanism of substituting the original by the copy, which becomes more important than the original. Quasi-reality in the novel - "ukhroniia" is built entirely on optical illusion, a gap between truth and verisimilitude.
