Abstract

Employing M. Elizarov's novel The Librarian and V. Benigsen's novel GenAcyde as examples, the article analyzes the manner in which prose writers of the first decade of the twenty-first century assess the role of literature in Russian (later Soviet) society, arriving at the idea of reconsidering the enlightenment project of forming the reader "from the above".
