Н. Берберова и В. Катаев: самоизмерение на фоне эпохи

Abstract

The article continues the series of comparatist readings of the artistic careers of writers belonging to the 'unnoticed generation' of Russian emigration vs. their yearlings who continued to live in the Soviet Union. The article focuses on typological similarities in biographies and books by Nina Berberova and Valentin Kataev, the two writers who lived very long lives, whose creative peak happened during the second halves of their lives. Also, in both cases the success of autobiographic books by Berberova and Kataev finds a strange correlation in the ambivalence of the writers' reputations.
