Abstract:	The article characterizes a poetic cycle of Joseph Brodsky Roman Elegies as the aesthetic whole and examines the most significant motifs and themes of his lyrics. The author compares the analyzed cycle with the traditions of the "Roman text" in the world literature as well as in the poetry of Brodsky. Roman Elegies are compared in the article with New Stanzas to Augusta.
