Abstract

The article discusses the indefinite but unquestionable similarity between the fates and works of the two writers - the renowned N. Ostrovski and the little known émigré V. Emelyanov. The authors were of the same generation, having undergone the revolution and the Civil War. Their books: "How the Steel Was Tempered" and "Jim's Date", despite clear differences are similar in their "ethical naturalism" and autopsychlogical analysis. For both authors, the act of writing is one of life-making, a recreation of the self in the word.
